Washi Paper Photography Prints

These works are washi paper photography prints made from hand-developed film negatives and printed onto traditional Japanese washi paper.

The washi surface subtly absorbs and diffuses the image, allowing light and fibre to become part of the photograph itself.

Rather than sitting on top of the paper, the photograph becomes embedded within the material. The texture of the washi plays an important role in how the image is experienced and read.

Each print is made by hand in the darkroom, meaning small variations in tone and texture naturally occur as part of the process.
